I love your site.

I tracked down Jeffrey Mark (james) Lippold. He's the liar who told such outlandish stories on Seducing Cindy.

I have dedicated a site for him that I'm sure all of you will want to see. http://jeffrey-lippold.info/

Check out this book. It gives insight into the mind of a returning veteran.

I was with the 1st from June 1964 to Dec 1966. For the last few months I was there I was assigned to Camp Hardy. We tested several pieces of equipment. It was great. One I remember testing was the first night vision scopes-I think it was called Starlight.

Thank you for the website. I have wondered about Camp Hardy for years. I knew it existed because I have a cassette copy of the dedication ceremony, but have seen only one picture of it. Camp Hardy is named after my dad, Herbert Hardy who died in Vietnam in 1964...3 months before I was born. I'm pleased to hear it was one of the best training facilities of it's time. A fitting tribute to a man who, from what I've been told, was one of the best of his time, too.

Hugh, i served at Camp Hardy from 1969 - 1970. Was Asst S3 and S3. Steve McAuley, Pat Mitchel, Jan Geisentanner, Mel Englbrect, Fusco, LT Larry Cano and MSG Nader were all there as well. Great to find a site that is designed for Camp Hardy. It was probably the best training site I ever worked at. As LTC Happersett once said " We are probably the only people on the island with a real job"(paraphrased).

Great website! VSO’s throughout the Nation tell us the U.S. Veteran Compensation Programs is a GREAT website as well. In fact, it is the website recommended by VSO’s around the world. Veterans who are actively pursuing a service-connected claim or seeking an increase in compensation visit U.S. Veteran Compensation Programs to learn how to file, who to see, where to go, what to do, and so much more. Visit it today!

I was on Oki in '68 and '69 in A Company working for LTC "Wild Bill" Campbell and later LTC Richard Kim. I was Detachment Commander of A-123 which served as instructors at Camp Hardy in mid-'69 for a few weeks. If you recall an SF Captain that drove a beat-up, camoflaged Subaru sedan and looked way too young to be for real, that was me. SFC Jenkins was the Team Sergeant. If you recall a one-off CAR (XM-177) in the special weapons collection that had an XM-148 grenade launcher fitted to it, I'm the guy who built it. I built it for home defense when we were off-base, but LTC Happerstett got wind of it and "persuaded" me to donate it to Camp Hardy. He was a hard case but a man for whom I had and still have immense respect. Him and COL Robert B. Rheault. I went to 5th Group (RVN) from Oki, then back stateside to the 7th Group.

Looking back, a great deal of what I understand about integrity and honor was learned with the officers and men of 1st SFG. God Bless them all!

Did you know?

The Department of Veterans Affairs established a service-connection for Vietnam veterans suffering from Parkinson's disease, ischemic heart disease (IHD) and B-cell leukemias such as hairy-cell leukemia. These illnesses are now considered "presumed" illnesses. This "presumption" simplifies and speeds up the application process for VA benefits. It is important to note that this new policy will not go into effect until sometime in 2010. At which point affected veterans will be urged to submit new disability claims.

Hello Specialist K,

I have been running the 9/11 Patch Project since December of 2001. The goals of the project have been to provide a 9/11 Tribute Patch for all U.S. Military, Fire and Police organizations, honor those who have given their lives since 9/11, create unity and raise funds for related non-profits. To date over 5000 organizations are on board. Heading into the 10 Year 9/11 Anniversary, there is a strong drive to get these patches on all uniforms by 2011. Since the military has been a large supporter of the project, I want to make sure your members and audience have access to the project. Here is an article that came out recently that talks about the project:

I would appreciate you sharing the project so all that all have the opportunity to learn about the project and participate.

Thank you!

Hugh,

I didn't remember you until I saw a picture of you and another Camp Hardy soldier on your site. I, too, was assigned there in 68-70, and I remember you fairly well, although I for years couldn't remember your name. Were you a Marine before joining the Army? Like to exchange email addresses if you remember. Steve

Hugh, I was assigned to Camp Hardy from about Dec 1968 thru Oct 1970. I worked with some real great SF troops I don't recall your assignment there, but then, my memory sure isn't what it used to be. Email me and maybe you can jar my memory so I can put a face with your name. I can also bring you up to date on the alumni cadre from Camp Hardy. Nice web site!
